His Favorite Winter Activity

In case you missed it on Monday, I am posting pictures this week that my hubby has been taking. I thought I would give you a different perspective of winter here in Wisconsin.

He leaves the house at the crack of dawn. A beautiful sunrise to start his day.

The morning is quiet and the trees are frosty. The temperature is -7 degrees.

They drive out onto the lake where there are lots of temporary shacks.

Next it's time to unload the "gear."

Let the drilling begin!

Watch your step! This is the hole for fishing. The ice is about 2 1/2 feet thick.

Once the poles are set in the water, they wait...

until someone catches a fish. This is Brian's Dad, who still loves to fish too.

Do you know what this is? Let me know in a comment if you do.

The poles are ready, and they wait some more...

and wait.............

and WAIT!!!

and here's another one for the experienced fisherman. It was too small to keep.

Time to head home. It was very windy and cold. Not what I would want to be doing.

He gets home and spends time with Chip.

Here's the beautiful sunset at the end of this blessed day.

  2. Glad Brian is having fun while he is home. I'd still rather stay inside, by the fireplace with my coffee. BTW - I know what that was! But then again, I would.

  3. Would that be a fish locator? Melissa went ice fishing with Jim one time and when she came home I asked how it was and her reply was: Mom you sit on a pail and look down a hole.

  10. Oh what a gorgeous sunset! Well I used to do a lot of ice skating back in the day but no ice fishing. But I will guess, was it an ice auger?

  11. Am I the only woman who likes to go ice fishing? There has to be someone out there?? I am amazed at the old days when they went ice fishing without a Vexlar. What is really cool when you can actually see the fish coming up to you line. Anyway, I wish I was ice fishing right now!! You can always wrap up in a blanket in front of the fireplace when you get home.

  23. I have no idea what that is...something that tells you how thick the ice is?

The sunrise/sunset photos are beautiful. It looks cold, but it was a fun peek into something I am not familiar with.

  25. One thing we've noticed since moving to Northern Wisconsin is that the locals embrace winter, whereas back in Iowa we endured it. I've spent more time outside this winter than I have in years. I love the perspective of your posts - that you like to hibernate in winter, but your husband likes to be outside. The pictures are great. Almost make me want to try ice fishing. Almost.

  26. Oh my gosh....did you say -7 degrees. Ok, I am now thankful for NC winters! Those pictures are breathtaking!

  27. I've always thought ice fishing would be neat...however, I have no patience for regular fishing, so I highly doubt I'd endure ice fishing. Men, they are so strange...
