I found this letter Andy wrote when he went away to camp for a week one summer. Tracy went every year from the time she was pretty young. One year Andy decided he would try it and that one time was enough for him.
I will translate this letter for you.
Dear Mom and Dad,
I am having a fun time at camp. I miss all of you. I got homesick at the first night.
Love you all. Bye.
AndyI remember this week that he went to camp. I knew he would have a hard time because he NEVER stayed away from home. Not even at Grandma's. It was pretty hard because there was no contact with the kids for the whole week.
Did your kids ever go away to camp? How did they handle it? How did YOU handle it?
Hi, Stopping by from SITS. What a great find. Very sweet letter from camp. It's a much save letter. Hope you find more like this. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure indeed! I know it melted your heart.
ReplyDeleteKyle goes away to camp for a week every summer and then spends 2 weeks in Kentucky with my parents(he is actually leaving next Thursay for Kentucky) and sadly...he doesn't get home sick...EVER! Me on the other hand, I suffer through a hous ethat is way to quite and clean!
Hi Jules,
ReplyDeleteI personally have never been away to camp, but 2 of our 5 have. It was difficult leaving them, but they both loved it. This summer 4 of the 5 will be going for 5 days, and then I think I'll send our oldest down to his grandma & grandpa's. It will be a nice break for my hubby and I.
The letter you found is precious. What a neat post.
Blessings,
Carol
So VERY Sweet:)
ReplyDeleteThose are the best finds...I love when they inventive spell (being a kinder teacher and all!) He did a great job sounds out his words! My oldest went away to camp 2 summers ago (just for 3 days) and LOVED it! Colin will be going away this summer (in 12 days actaully) and is so very excited!!
ReplyDeleteHey Jules, my 15 yr.old Kate is going to Bible camp for a week. I bet she gets homesick. She's never been to a camp away from home. She's gone camping with her siblings and us but never without family. I hope she has fun but I also hope she misses me!
ReplyDeleteLove Di ♥
Don't you love those old notes from the kids. Every once in a while I will go through the ones the girls had written that we kept. Always worth many laughs and tears.....How sweet.
ReplyDeleteMy kids never did the camp thing. I'm sure they would have loved it. I'll have to watch for those opportunities for my grandkids. Though we do take them camping a lot.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll treasure that letter for a long time!
why didnt you post the note that tracy found from that girl? haha
ReplyDeleteSweet! I never went to camp because like Andy, I liked home too much. I did have a chance to go as a Brownie and backed out. I was also nominated for a Leadership Camp in middle school but would have required me going several hours away from home in the NC mtns. I didn't go and wish I had.
ReplyDeleteLuckily I have another couple of years before mine are the "camp" age, but I dread it and look forward to it at the same time. I dread the letting go but at the same time can't wait to get a sweet letter like that!
ReplyDeleteI remember when you got that letter!
ReplyDeleteVery sweet letter. Good thing you kept it. I usually get intent on cleaning and toss loose papers.
ReplyDeleteMy kids love going to camp. Don't think they've gotten homesick. When my oldest daughter was 13 she wrote me a letter from camp. "Dear Mom, I don't miss you. This is like a vacation from home." :(
Her Daddy's that way. He doesn't get homesick either. So from a Mom whose kids, for whatever reason, don't seem to miss her, I think it's sweet that your child did.
Cute letter! sweet little man! ;)
ReplyDeletemy kids are WAY too shy to go to camp! at least my little girl does sleepovers ... my little boy is still terrified to do sleepovers... ugh... one day!?? ;)_
What a cute little note!! How sweet :)

ReplyDeletethat is so precious! What a great find. My girls don't go to camp, but are going to spend some time out of town with my in-laws this summer...
ReplyDeleteIs it weird that I didn't need any traslation? I guess when you've got kids that age it just comes naturally. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet memory. I think I had a harder time than Ty when he went to camp last year.
That letter is so sweet!! Old memories are such wonderful things!! I am trying to remember if my girls ever went away to camp.......think maybe but they were older and did ok!!
